My journey began over 7 years ago when I made the concious decision to live a healthier life. As the manager of Gears Bike Shop in Port Credit I was offered the chance to teach indoor cycling to local highschool ‘phys-ed’ classes and the rest is history! With the combination of Gears’ well-equipped, amphitheatre-style studio, my love of music, my Dj skills, my success as an instructor was guarenteed. After being offered a regular instructing spot teaching once a week, I quickly grew a following and now teach 5 regularily scheduled classes.

None of this would have been possible without my students, who continuely support my development and growth as an instructor. They motivate me, just as much as I motivate them, to get on the bike every week. Together with their feedback I am able to develop a class that offers a challenge for everyone from your first-time spinner to your seasoned spinner.

I truly believe that “we” are the only barriers to achieving our personal goals, if you want to do something you can do it, I did! My health and fitness goals are still a work in progress and I know Gears’ Indoor Cycling Studio is the place to do it, we are not just a home to great classes, but also to a community of people commited to living healthier, happier lives.

Some of my favorite activities are snowboarding, biking, hiking, climbing and yoga.

Some of my hobbies include: Dj-ing, Special FX Make-up, and digital photography.

The Gears Indoor Cycling Schedule can be found @ http://www.gearsbikeshop.com

As I start my second term as an ambassador with lululemon Sherway I hope to work with my fellow ambassadors, and collectively bring “YOU” our community, programs that fully encompass your goals on the road to a healthier living.

In 1996, I received my diploma in esthetics. Working in the esthetics industry gave me the opportunity to work hands on with people. I realized that the power of touch could be very healing and wanted to go beyond the surface of the skin. I needed something deeper and more profound. That is when I decided to look into teaching yoga.

After two years at Sheridan College for the Yoga Teachers Program, I became a Fitness Specialist. I attained my certificate from Humber College and my Personal Training Certificate from the Canadian Fitness Professionals (Can-Fit-Pro). I have also attended the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. I completed the Moksha Yoga Teacher Training in July of 2008.

I have been teaching yoga for 5 years and practicing for over 12 years. Yoga has helped me grow, spiritually, mentally and physically. After reading my favorite book “Happy Yoga” by Steve Ross and Olivia Rosewood, I became inspired to finally become a vegetarian. It’s been over three years now and I feel great!

Yoga has kept me young and flexible and also enabled me to regain my strength after the birth of my son Aden, 5 years ago. Yoga is also therapy for the soul; it has provided an intense healing for me. Yoga has helped me become a happier and a more positive person. I am moving toward awareness and truth, to find the essence of our being. The journey has been amazing so far!

“I have been dancing for over 25 years and it is the one aspect of my life in which I feel completely free to express myself artistically, spiritually, mentally, and physically. It allows me to challenge myself every day and provides a form of communication that can be understood universally. No matter which country I am in, everyone speaks the language of music, movement, and passion.”

Lopa trained in Toronto for 20 years in the classical Indian dance form of Bharatanatym, performing in Canada and the U.S. After completing her MBA at the Schulich School of Business, she moved to London (U.K.) where she spent two years choreographing, performing and teaching Bollywood dance. While in the UK, she worked with Bollywood choreographer Pappu-Malu (of Devdas) and performed on stage with Malaika Arora. She was seen on BBC, Zee TV, and Sony Television.

Lopa lived in the Bahamas while working as a Choreographer for Club Med. Through the Club Med Artist Program, she was invited to teach and perform in Punta Cana and Mexico.

She has choreographed for film in New York City, performed in London, taught in Wales, and currently runs her own dance company in Toronto. Her dancers have performed for MTV, the Toronto Raptors, and on stage with Raghav and Malkit Singh. They have been a part of PR campaigns for Bombay Dreams and Slumdog Millionaire and recently were the opening act at the Princess of Wales Theatre for the Gilda’s Club charity fundraiser.

Lopa is the founder and Director of Divine Heritage Artistry. DHA is a company committed to excellence in the performing arts and showcases the fusion of diversities found within its creative team of artists and performers.

Lopa’s unique style of choreography is described as urban fusion funk. Taking her main flavour from Bollywood music, she combines the beauty and grace from classical Indian dance, the fierceness and energy of Bhangra, the passion of Latin, the groove from Street/HipHop and the spice of Middle Eastern dance. You can now experience her dance class in your own home with her new instructional dance DVD!
